Beth Vaughn is shown in a previous game spotting up from behind the arch. Vaughn hit a 3-pointer in the first quarter versus the Lady Dragons. She finished the win with six points.

The Lady Pioneers made a statement in their Thursday night game on the road versus Franklin North. The WCMS offense outscored and outlasted the Lady Dragons and ended the regular season with a 56-50 win in Franklin County.
WCMS pulled it together in the season finale and the Lady Pioneers were led by Savannah Cox with a game-high 16 points. Cox launched a long-range aerial assault with four 3-pointers in the first half.
A 16-point explosion by the Lady Pioneers in the first quarter allowed WCMS to pull away from the Lady Dragons. The Lady Pioneers found a rhythm early and the Lady Dragon defense allowed WCMS to shoot from behind the arch.
Cox was left alone and knocked down her first two 3’s of the game in the opening period. As the defense focused on Cox, it freed up Beth Vaughn and Hallie Pennington and both of them fired from long range and hit their mark.
Nautica Brown went to work on the inside and she scored four first-quarter points on the inside for the Lady Pioneers.
Franklin North got started off on the wrong foot and the offense struggled against the defense of WCMS. Hannah Escalon led the Lady Dragons in the first with five points. Shaleigh Garner was the only other player to score for Franklin North and the Lady Dragons trailed 16-7 after one.
WCMS maintained the defensive pressure and pushed the tempo against the Lady Dragons. Brown and Vaughn worked inside the Lady Dragon defense and it freed up Cox who buried a second pair of 3-pointers over the defense.
Franklin North finally settled into its offense and Anna Stevenson found her range from deep. Her teammate, Caitie Crowder, also connected from behind the arch. The Franklin North offense kept pace but was not able to gain any ground on WCMS and at the half the Lady Pioneers led 27-19.
Franklin North opened the second half with a much more aggressive offense. Summer Hill, who was not a factor in the first half, stepped back behind the arch and connected twice for six points. Crowder hit again from deep and shot 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
WCMS fought hard against the Lady Dragons attempt to control the pace. Alora Stuart led the Lady Pioneers in the second with four points in the paint. Kamryn Knowlin was fouled on her way through the defense. She knocked down a pair of free throws in the third.
Samantha Jennings entered the scoring in the third with her only three points and after three complete, WCMS led 39-32.
The fourth quarter was another close quarter and WCMS held off the offensive surge attempted by Franklin North. The Lady Dragons outscored the Lady Pioneers 18-17 in the final period. A pair of 3-point bombs dropped for Franklin North, along with six points from the floor.
Cox and Brown combined for nine fourth-quarter points and Knowlin connected on 5-of-10 free throw attempts down the stretch. WCMS grabbed the early lead over Franklin North and then slayed the Lady Dragons, 56-50.
