Lady Pioneers fall at home

Warren County High School Lady Pioneer Rae Anna Hodges fights to get inside the paint Monday and gets sandwiched by the Coffee County D.

After carving out two tournament wins in the Cannon County Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend, the Lady Pioneers couldn’t handle the leftovers as they played host to Coffee County on Monday, falling to the Lady Raiders, 47-40.
“We waited too late to get started and didn’t find the extra shots,” said Warren County Lady Pioneer coach Shea Panter. “We didn’t get the job done on the boards. We got outhustled.”
Tied at 23 at the break, both teams had slow starts offensively. A steady stream of field goals by Lady Raider Abby Morgan, who shot a game-high 15 points, was a deal breaker for the Lady Pioneers who had trouble keeping Coffee County out of the paint and pressing in the backcourt.
Warren County shot 60 percent from the foul line hitting 6-of-10, while Coffee was 83 percent, hitting 10-of-12 giving them a slight edge from the charity stripe.
Coffee County was using some pressure on the defensive side, which usually the Lady Pioneers don’t have trouble overcoming. Monday was an off-night with none of the usual suspects breaking double digits in the scoring column.
Elsa Eckenrod and Rae Anna Hodges led the scoring drive for the Lady Pioneers with 9 points apiece. Megan Patch, who hit five 3-pointers in the last Cannon County game, hit for two treys Monday along with on bucket giving her an 8-point game total followed closely by Callie Cathcart with 7 points.
The Lady Pioneers play host to the Siegel Lady Stars on Dec. 5 at Charlie Dalton Gym. Game time is 6 p.m.
