Wildcats win wild one over Eastside

In a see-saw game with ups and downs filled with twists and turns, the Wildcats from Dibrell defeated the hard-charging Bulldogs from Eastside. The Bulldogs dominated the first quarter at 13-6 and then the game took a turn.
The final three quarters were heavily controlled by and favored the Wildcats. Dibrell held off the final offensive attack by the Bulldogs and Dibrell defeated Eastside, 53-52.
Matthew Vandagriff of Dibrell led all scorers with a game-high 25 points. Vandagriff pounded the low post for 18 of the 25-point total. He shot 7-of-15 from the free throw line.
Dibrell started the fourth quarter with a 39-35 lead and momentum on its side. The Wildcats went back to the hot hand of Vandagriff and he continued to make his presence known down low. He added six points inside the paint as time ticked off the clock.
Vandagriff was sent to the free-throw line and shot 3-of-9 in the final six minutes. Bryson Elrod and Joey Burgess each scored for the Wildcats in the final minutes.
The Bulldog offense was on the move and on the attack. Dylan Partain tried to spark the offense and connected on his second 3-pointer of the game. Cruz Reyes led the Bulldogs in the final quarter with five points along with Alec Hobbs with five.
The offensive surge by Eastside fell just shy of the lead at the final buzzer and Dibrell defeated Eastside, 53-52.
Eastside went on the attack early in the first quarter and everything was going its way on offense and defense. Alex Greer lit up the Wildcat defense with seven first-quarter points and Caden Beaty fired a long-distance shot that connected after he slipped free.
Dibrell lagged behind in the first period and only one shot by Vandagriff from the floor fell. The other four points came from the free-throw line and Dibrell trailed 13-6 after one.
The Wildcats regrouped between quarters and the Dibrell offense exploded for a 17-point second quarter. No single player took charge of the offense as six different players scored in the quarter. Caden Davis hit the only 3-pointer scored by Dibrell.
The Bulldogs had been contained in the second and Christian Rogers knocked down a 3-point shot and the rest came from the charity stripe. At the end of the second quarter, Dibrell claimed the lead, 23-20.
The Wildcat offense continued to flex its muscle in the third quarter. Vandagriff poured in eight more and Burgess added five.
The Bulldogs offense came to life in the third and Reyes led Eastside with three 3-point baskets and Partain added four for good measure. The two combined for 12 of the 15 points in the third.
Despite the Bulldogs’ best effort, they could not reclaim the lead and Dibrell edged out Eastside at home and defeated the Bulldogs, 53-52.
