A McMinnville woman was killed Friday night in Scott County when her ATV slid off the road and hit a tree.

Tanya D. Hall, 48, died in the crash that occurred at 7:42 p.m. Eastern, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. She was a passenger in a 2018 Polaris 1000 ATV that was being driven by her husband, Frederick J. Hall, 54, who suffered serious injuries and has been hospitalized.

According to the Highway Patrol preliminary report released Saturday afternoon, the ATV was traveling west on Cordell Road, a rural road that runs along the New River near the Kentucky state line. It was near the intersection with Hurricane Road that Mr. Hall lost control.

“The vehicle slid off the roadway and into a tree,” the Highway Patrol report states. “The top of the vehicle was impacted and crushed inward.”

The report notes neither occupant was wearing a helmet. It’s the belief of crash investigators that would have made a difference. The report also indicates Mrs. Hall was wearing a seatbelt, while Mr. Hall was not.

According to information released on social media, Mr. Hall is undergoing treatment at a Knoxville hospital. He is said to have suffered head, rib and hip injuries.
