Allie Melton had 11 points for DeKalb County in Friday's win.

A late rally for the Lady Pioneers came up short in Smithville Friday. Warren County was trying to snap a four-game losing streak when it traveled across the border to DeKalb County, but the Lady Tigers came up with a 40-37 win on their home court.

Trinity Reynolds scored a team-high 15 points for the Lady Pioneers, many coming in the fourth quarter when the team frantically tried to dig out of a double-digit hole late. Senior Bri Taylor added eight and freshman Brynlee Chisam finished with seven as the Lady Pioneers fell to 1-5 on the season.

It turned out to be a payback game for DeKalb County junior Allie Melton as she was a catalyst during a 17-0 run in the third quarter when the home squad took control. Melton, a starter for a WC elementary championship team at Centertown who was cut before her sophomore year at WCHS, hit two triples during the span and finished with 11 points in the win for the Lady Tigers.

The game went to halftime knotted at 15-15, but the Lady Pioneers were able to surge out to a five-point cushion early in the third before DeKalb County took control. Melton's 3-pointer with 5:12 started a 17-point swing for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 3-6 win the victory.

DeKalb County kept its double-digit lead until the final two minutes, but Warren County - with Reynolds leading the charge - made the home team sweat in the final seconds. Reynolds hit a pair of floaters, including one at the buzzer, to narrow the gap before the final horn.

Warren County will get a chance to break a five-game losing streak Tuesday at home when it plays Siegel. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Charlie Dalton Gym.
