A woman who stole parked vehicles – having a tow truck take them away to be sold at scrapyards – has been given a 16-year sentence, in part due to her long history as a thief. The woman, Lisa M. Porterfield, 35, was issued the 16-year sentence by Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley after she entered a guilty plea to her recent theft charges. The prison time includes her violation of probation on her former crimes of aggravated burglary and grand theft.Porterfield stole six vehicles, according to investigators, with the vehicles belonging to four separate victims.“She was contacting a tow truck driver out of another county and having him come tow them away,” said sheriff’s investigator Travis Thaxton. He revealed the victims, all Hispanic males, were away from home at work at the time and the cars stolen were all older-model cars.“She would then have the wrecker driver take them where she would sell them for scrap,” Thaxton said. The thefts happened at several areas including Gath-Lucky, Beersheba Highway and Magness Drive. One victim lost three vehicles. The vehicles were reported stolen by the victims, who returned home to find their property gone.
