People excited about a new walking trail along the Barren Fork River are asked to donate their time to create it. The clearing effort begins next Saturday.
The Friends of the Greenway and the city of McMinnville are asking for volunteers to meet at the parking lot at the end of Sally’s Alley at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, to begin clearing a new hiking trail along the Barren Fork River.
Work to be done includes raking leaves and removing rocks and fallen limbs from the trail, using hand clippers, loppers and hand saws to cut small brush from the trail and corridor, carry cut brush away from the corridor, using hoes, mattocks and brush pullers to remove small stumps from the tread way. Once cleared, volunteers will use fire rakes and spades to level the dirt trail surface.
All adults are welcome to participate. Persons under the age of 11 are not allowed to help and those age 12 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent or a responsible adult. Everyone will be required to sign a waiver of liability for injury.
Everybody should bring work gloves, a day pack for a snack, and water. Most work will stop at noon.
For more information or to register to volunteer, call Wally or Pat Bigbee at 473-5968.
