Teen drinkers caught during patrol

Labor Day weekend’s saturation patrol looking for drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol resulted in no arrests for DUI, but five teenagers were charged with underage consumption. The arrests were made after officers responded to a noise complain on River Drive just before midnight on Sept. 1 where they found a party in progress and “a large quantity of alcoholic beverages present.”The party-goers were sentenced to 16 hours community service and $50 plus court cost by General Sessions Judge Bill Locke.Officers assigned to the saturation patrol do not respond to calls. Their only job is to stop vehicles when the driver is suspected of drug or alcohol use.
