Dairy Queen of McMinnville is getting involved in McMinnville Police Department’s saturation patrol during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays to encourage safety for children.“We have partnered with Dairy Queen in hopes of saving lives during this particular saturated patrol,” said McMinnville Police Department Lt. Mark Mara. “Dairy Queen has graciously provided free ice cream cone coupons which police will hand out during traffic stops if children are properly restrained.”Mara said the free ice cream is just a small way to get motorists to think safety when operating a vehicle.“This is one more thing that we trying to encourage people to drive safely and make sure all passengers wear seatbelts,” said Mara. “We contacted the manager of Dairy Queen and he was more than willing to help us encourage the proper restraint of children for their safety.”This is the first time the department has partnered with a local business in this way, says Mara.“It’s great that a local business is taking part with us to make a difference.
