A family of three was injured Friday afternoon when they were struck by an SUV while crossing the parking lot near the grocery entrance of Walmart.
The victims, Linda Roberts, 55, and her brother, Allen Johnson, 36, were airlifted for treatment of their injuries, but have since been released from the hospital. Johnson’s 5-year-old daughter was taken to River Park Hospital for precautionary reasons and has also been released.
Meanwhile, the driver, Amanda Wanamaker, 29, has been charged with careless driving and authorities are looking at the store surveillance tape which captured the incident to determine if more charges are warranted.
The accident happened Friday at 1:30 p.m. in front of the grocery side of Walmart. According to McMinnville police officer Marty Cantrell, the family was crossing the walkway from the parking lot to the store when they were hit by a 2003 Ford Expedition driven by Wanamaker. The impact knocked all three to the pavement.
“She said she did not see them until it was too late,” Cantrell said, noting he is unsure how fast the SUV was traveling. “She had passengers and said her attention was toward them.”
Cantrell said Wanamaker had just rounded the corner and was heading toward the general merchandise entrance of the store when she hit the three.
