Students at Centertown School will be performing a play next week. “School House Rock” will be offered beginning Tuesday night.
The musical will be held at 6 p.m. on May 1, 3 and 4, with a Dinner Theater at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 5 that will include a meal from High Roller Smokers. Cost for admission on the first three nights will be $4. Saturday’s admission will be $10.
Members of Centertown’s Theater Club have been practicing for weeks on routines needed for the show.
“There’s a little bit of dialog, mostly singing,” said parent Jana Ringemann. “It sounds really good. The students are working really hard to pull this show off.”
Theater Club members include Clint Grissom, Wyatt Stephens, Sawyer Hall, Hannah Wright, Katelyn Cooper, Kaylee McClure, Alli Howard, Diamond Davis, Haley Fults, Allyson Whiteaker, Jera Ringemann, Layne White, Chole Moore, Blake Moore, Katlyn Morgan, Anslee Miller, Ashlyn Nokes, Halie Leonard and Katy Mae Cantrell.
Skits during the show are geared toward a musical performance about the inner workings of the United States government and educational songs about nouns, adjectives, etc.
Also lending their voices to the show will be club members Cassidy Newby, Kayla Myers, Alex Owen, Brooke Grissom, Carrington Bumbalough, Bethany Cox, Bridgette Kern, Abby Davis, Abby Hodge, Britney Brannam, Ashley Dillon, Madalyn Stubblefield, Alicia Hendricks, Jaylen Pinegar, Lilly Fults, Kenzie Franklin, Talia Vaughn, Alexis Alarcon and Kyler Bryson.
Theater Club director Kennette Dixon took over the reins this year from Dr. Lynn England.
“They are doing really well,” she said. “I wasn’t sure how the children would be, but I have been amazed. Every one of them wants to do this. They have worked tirelessly to learn their parts.”
Dixon says she hopes the community will come out and show the students the same dedication they have given during the play’s production.
“We need to show our support for their efforts,” said Dixon. “All the proceeds raised go to benefit the Theater Club to buy necessary items such as equipment, costumes, props.”
For this production, Aaron Jones is director, Josh Taylor is music director, Dana Grissom is stage manager, Sam Nokes is assistant stage manager, and lending technological assistance are Evan Stephens, Rick Dixon and McKenna Dixon.
