JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say a Sneedville man has been charged with killing his mother while trying to steal her car.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says 31-year-old Larry Holt Jr. was indicted Monday on charges of first-degree murder and theft in the death of 66-year-old Darlene Seal.

Investigators say Holt cut Seal, his mother, with a knife as he was in the process of stealing her car in December.

Holt, who was in the Hancock County Jail on unrelated charges when the indictment was handed down, is being held on $250,000 bond.
