MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis police have arrested a man who they say raped a woman after claiming to be a sheriff's deputy.

Media outlets report that Stanley Jefferson was arrested Monday on charges related to the Sept. 7 incident. The reason for the delay is unknown.

According to an arrest report, Jefferson knocked on the victim's door and identified himself as a Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputy. When she opened the door, Jefferson forced his way inside and attacked her. Police say Jefferson punched the victim until she was unconscious.

Relatives found the victim Sept. 9 and took her to a hospital, where a rape kit was collected.

An affidavit says Jefferson is a registered sex offender, and the GPS monitor on his ankle placed him inside the victim's home at the time of the assault.

It wasn't immediately clear if Jefferson has an attorney.
