FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) — A Williamson County judge has ruled against a group of eight Tennessee voters who support abortion rights.

The case is a side note to a federal lawsuit, where the voters want to toss out a 2014 constitutional amendment that made it easier to restrict abortion. They claim the way the vote was counted unfairly favored supporters of the amendment.

The Williamson County lawsuit was brought against the voters by Secretary of State Tre Hargett and Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins. Their suit asked Circuit Court Judge Michael Binkley to declare that they counted the votes correctly.

Binkley ruled Thursday in favor of the officials.

Attorneys for the voters say the decision should not affect the federal case.

A spokesman for Hargett and Goins says they are pleased with the ruling.
