CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — A spokeswoman for an Ironman triathlon in Chattanooga says a male competitor has died.
Race spokeswoman Ellie Seifert tells media outlets that an athlete required medical attention during the 2.4-mile swim portion of Sunday's event and Hamilton County emergency crews pulled him from the Tennessee River.
The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The man's identity wasn't immediately released pending notification of relatives.
