The man she called a monster for molesting her when she was a child will spend the rest of his life in a cage after jurors convicted him on charges of child rape, six months after another jury ended deadlocked in his case.The man, John David Smartt Jr., 48, was found guilty on 12 felony counts and taken directly to jail after the reading of the verdict just before 8 p.m. Thursday night. His conviction includes five counts of child rape, each of which carries 25 to 40 years in prison. He was also convicted on counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor for taking pornographic pictures of the child and for rape.
