Schools get new water deal

A deal that spanned two decades has been renewed with the Warren County School System coming to terms to continue buying water from West Warren-Viola Utility District.Pending approval by the West Warren board, which will meet in July, the Warren County School System will leave its water services for the high school and Hickory Creek campuses in the hands of that utility. The question was up for debate when discussions were held to possibly jump ship and go with another provider if rates were more reasonable elsewhere. As part of the original agreement with West Warren, hatched when the campus at Hickory Creek was first built, the school system was brought online with West Warren at a fixed rate. When that deal expired, the rate also expired, leading school officials to question if they could find a better deal. However, renegotiating with West Warren has led to a satisfactory deal, according to Director of Schools Bobby Cox.“We’re looking at $35,000 a year in savings,” Cox revealed.
