River Park Hospital officials had to wait over 24 hours to welcome the first local baby of 2013.
Andres Genaro Mares made his debut at 8:21 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2. The baby boy, delivered by Dr. Dawnmarie Riley, weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19-3/4 inches long. The proud parents are Norma Torres and Gerardo Mares. Baby Andres has one older sibling, Gerardo Mares Jr.
The squirmy, active infant spent time on Wednesday morning being passed around by relatives, getting his diaper changed and trying on his “New Year Baby” onesie. With each cuddle and coo, it was clear Baby Andres didn’t mind the attention.
When asked if she knew she would give birth to Warren County’s New Year Baby, Torres said, “I had no idea. We all thought the New Year baby would be born on Jan. 1. We were definitely excited about the news.”
Felicia Young, director of River Park Hospital’s Family Birth Center, said she and her staff were honored to care for Andres and his mother.
“We celebrate every single birth here at River Park, but this particular birth is special because it helps us kick off another great year at River Park Hospital,” Young said, “We typically deliver over 500 babies a year, so it’s always nice to give a little extra recognition to our very first baby of the year.”
For its New Year Baby celebration, River Park Hospital partnered with area businesses to celebrate this very special delivery. In addition to earning the title of Warren County’s first baby of 2013, Andres also received gifts.
