The organization that helps when disaster strikes is looking to fend off a potential disaster of its own – a volunteer shortage. In an effort to recruit new members, the Red Cross is holding two meetings over the next week to give prospective volunteers more information about the organization. The first meeting is this Saturday, Sept. 24, beginning at 9 a.m. The second meeting is Monday, Sept. 26, beginning at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be held at Caney Fork Electric’s auditorium.“There are so many misconceptions about what it takes to be a Red Cross disaster volunteer,” said local Red Cross director Kathy Nesmith. “This will be an overview. It’s an introduction to disasters.”Nesmith says there will be a 30- to 45-minute presentation and plenty of time will be allotted to answer questions.
