The driver of a vehicle that hit a rock wall on Highway 8 on the Fourth of July has died from his injuries. The victim, Robert “Bobby” Pitts, 24, of McMinnville died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Wednesday, two days after the crash atop Harrison Ferry Mountain.According to highway patrolman Al Seitner, the wreck happened near the seven-mile marker on Highway 8 near the southern edge of Warren County. Preliminary reports revealed Pitts was heading northbound, toward McMinnville, when he lost control of his Honda Civic as he was heading down the mountain. Seitner said speed was a factor in Pitts losing control. After losing control, Pitts’ vehicle left the roadway and slammed into a tree, and a rock embankment near the shoulder of the highway.
