James Russell Watson, 79, of Smithville, passed away at the Webb House on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024. Born on Aug. 5, 1945, in Woodbury, he was the son of the late James Augusta and Lois Blankenship Watson. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jill Watson.

Russell was a dedicated agriculture teacher at Warren County High School, where he inspired students for 44 years. He was a devout member and elder of the Smithville Church of Christ, where he contributed significantly to the community. His passion for agriculture and education was evident through his involvement with the NAAE, FFA, and the Middle TN Iris Society. He earned his master's degree from Tennessee State University.

Russell is survived by his loving family, including his daughter, Kelly (Andrew) Evans of Alamo; and his sons, Kurt (Emily) Watson of Lascassas, Kyle (Jennifer) Watson of Columbia and Craig Watson of Nashville. He was a proud grandfather to Robyn Evans, Kate Evans, Joy Evans, Claire Evans, Lillian Watson, Everett Watson, Britton Watson and Ruby Watson. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia (Mike) Gantt of Indiana and Jeanne (David) Smith of Murfreesboro, along with numerous other family members and friends.

Visitation with the Watson family will be held in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home on Saturday from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and on Sunday at Smithville Church of Christ from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery with Bro. Dan Gulley officiating.
