A repeat drunk driver has been indicted for fleeing the scene of an accident leaving his fatally injured passenger lying on the ground near the wreckage.
The suspect, Mark Anthony Pack, has been indicted on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular homicide, reckless homicide, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of a fatality and fourth-offense DUI. The top charge of aggravated vehicular homicide carries 15 to 25 years in prison.
Pack is charged in the death of Angelica Hernandez, 27, who died in a single-vehicle wreck on Foster Road on March 8. The pickup in which she was riding was found crashed next to a driveway when the residents of the home were leaving for work.
The victim was found near the wreckage. She had been thrown from the pickup as it rolled after leaving Foster Road sometime during the pre-dawn hours.
A search of the area netted no one else. Investigators suspected she was not the driver given information they received. The Dodge pickup belonged to Pack, who had reportedly been a boyfriend of the victim at one time.
A check of his driving record revealed he was a multi-time drunk driving offender. Investigators said they delayed taking the case to the grand jury while they gathered evidence they believe will put him behind the wheel of the truck drunk the night of the crash.
