Chocolate and peanut butter are often touted as a combination that goes great together. But when you get down to the best winning combination, it’s hard to beat free ice cream and discount newspaper subscriptions. You can find that combination at the Southern Standard office at 105 College Street this Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. as the newspaper holds its annual Banana Day.The newspaper touts the summer event as a way to have a barrel of fun and hundreds of local residents agree. Since the Standard began Banana Day about 10 years ago, newspaper employees have served at least 500 banana splits each year.If a free banana split won’t get you to visit the newspaper office, cold cash and discount subscriptions serve as extra incentives. All visitors can register to win two cash prizes of $100 while they are enjoying their ice cream.Subscriptions are also heavily discounted for new customers.
