A man will report to jail the day after Christmas for breaking another inmate’s jaw during an altercation earlier this year at Warren County Jail. The inmate, Billy Jack Nelson, 35, entered a guilty plea before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke to the reduced charge of simple assault. He was directed to serve 60 days of an 11-month, 29-day sentence beginning Dec. 26. He could have faced three to six years in prison had he been convicted on the original charge of aggravated assault.Nelson attacked fellow inmate Ryan Malone the day before Nelson was to be released from jail after serving his sentence.According to Sheriff Jackie Matheny, Malone, who was in jail serving time for violation of probation, suffered a swollen jaw and had to have stitches for the attack at the hands of Nelson.Matheny said the attack happened while Malone was in the day room of B-Pod where inmates are allowed to walk and relax during their free time outside their jail cells.
