This week, March 1-7, has been declared Shop Across McMinnville Week by Mayor Jimmy Haley.
Haley made the announcement last week, stating the idea came from Warren County Chamber of Commerce president Mandy Eller.
“This was Mandy Eller’s idea,” said Haley. “She said other Chambers across the country are doing something similar to this and she got this from a suggestion from Jt. Juliet. I composed this little proclamation to recognize businesses.”

The Proclamation
“Whereas local business is important to the overall economic vitality of any community and
Whereas when local businesses do well, the whole community prospers
Whereas the recent Try Here Buy Here campaign has proven beneficial to local merchants and has helped to instill a sense of pride in our hometown businesses and
Whereas inclement weather conditions have challenged both our citizens and has an adverse effect on their livelihoods and
Whereas plunging temperatures, hazardous driving conditions and power outages have negatively affected shopping across the city
Whereas Chamber of Commerce officials across the nation have recognized the need to rally behind our business community during these recent weather disasters and
Whereas our local Chamber and city of McMinnville realize the benefits of promoting our hometown businesses first, not only during a crisis, but throughout the year
Therefor I, Mayor Jimmy Haley, do declare that March 1-7, 2015 be known as Shop Across McMinnville Week while we encourage residents to support local enterprise and recognize the important role that our merchants pay in the economic wellbeing of Warren County and its citizens.”
Try Here Buy Here is a shop-at-home campaign that was launched in 2013 as a year-round promotion. The Southern Standard has been one of the many businesses spearheading the charge to encourage buying local.
