A man who threatened to kill his pregnant girlfriend and her baby has been bound to the grand jury on multiple felony counts.
The suspect, Thomas Cole Young, 29, saw his bond increased to $100,000 when he appeared before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke. He stands charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, aggravated criminal trespass, and violating an order of protection.
The charges come after police were dispatched to Lyndon Street where he was assaulting his pregnant girlfriend. The woman told police he grabbed her arm, pulled her hair, and threw her to the ground.
“He then choked her and told her he was going to kill her and the baby that she was five months pregnant with,” reported McMinnville officer Brad Hall. “She also had two small children at the residence.”
Police spotted Young getting into a silver SUV just as they arrived. Hall shouted for the suspect to stop, but his words were ignored as Young jumped into the vehicle and sped away.
Officers gave chase down Morrison Street and finally got him to pull over on Karate Lane near the high school.
“He got out of the vehicle and stated he wasn’t going back to jail,” recalled patrolman Chris Hutchins. “He advised that he had a pocket knife in his pocket and that he would cut whoever tried to arrest him.”
He then tried to walk away from the officers and pulled the knife in a threatening manner when he was ordered to stop again. He was taken into custody moments later without getting to use the knife on police.
