Man killed crawling on highway

The grandson of well-known local resident “Cowboy” Bob Reed has been killed in an unusual accident in Florida.The man, Andrew Jeremian Smith, 32, of Turnersville, N.C., was killed last week when he was run over while trying to crawl across U.S. 19 Highway near Crystal River, Fla.Investigators report he was crawling on the highway on his hands and knees when he was struck by a motor home driven by Gary Black, 53, of Crystal River. Black said he tried to stop but didn’t have time as he was surprised by the crawling man in his path. Smith was struck again after being run over by the motor home, this time by a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Teresa Rodriguez, 33.Family members of the fatally injured victim said he was put out by his girlfriend who he was riding with, explaining why he was on the highway in the first place.
