Mall offering trick or treating

Three Star Mall will be offering its annual trick or treat event Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. Bring your tricksters and treat them to delightful morsels of candy from merchants located at the mall.
“We are doing trick or treating on Halloween night,” said Susie Griffith, assistant manager of Three Star Mall. “Different merchants will be participating. I believe all but one merchant will be giving out candy so that’s 13. That’s not counting Dollar Tree and Kroger, but those businesses will be participating.”
The mall has been offering parents an alternative to the customary house-to-house visiting for three decades. Griffith says parents enjoy the environment.
“Teresa and I have been here almost 28 years and I believe this tradition began before that,” said Griffith. “Parents enjoy it because it doesn’t matter what the weather is like outside. We used to have a Halloween costume contest for the children. Due to the number of children, the contest became too difficult to manage with the different categories so we stopped doing it. It was really hard to judge. They were all really cute.”
Annual visitors to the event will notice a change in the candy being distributed.
“The only complaint we’ve had in the past is that most of the merchants were giving out the same candy,” said Griffith. “That was because we were buying some candy for the merchants to give out and they bought any additional that they needed. This year we have tried to get each merchant a different kind of candy. We are going to give that a try and see how it works.”
The Three Star Mall, where shopping is a treat, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, call 473-1515.
