Main Street now tweeting

Main Street McMinnville is going places it has never been before. Under new leadership, it’s trending worldwide and tweeting its way into a new technological age.
Co-directors Paige Chastain and Brook Holmes are launching the organization into social media with Twitter and Instagram in an effort to attract and encourage younger individuals to become interested and involved in downtown revitalization.
“Social media is a great tool for getting your message out and generating interest,” said Chastain. “It is also a great way to connect to younger generations. One of the things Brook and I strive to do is get more people our age and younger interested and involved in the historic preservation and revitalization of downtown. If we can get these generations interested and involved, the interest will hopefully trickle down to even younger generations. For these reasons, Brook and I are very excited to be introducing Main Street McMinnville to the world of Twitter and Instagram.”
Twitter is an online social networking tool and microblogging service that enables users to send and read short 140-character test messages, called tweets. The tool allows users to post updates of what’s going on in their lives along with links to things they are interested in or links to things that followers of theirs might be interest in. While individuals use Twitter as a way to connect with people, express themselves and discover what’s happening with others, businesses and organizations use it to share information about their services and build relationships with customers.
Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. The tool is an almost exclusively mobile platform. Users must download the iPhone or Android App to their mobile device in order to register an Instagram account.
“Most people link their Instagram to their Twitter and Facebook,” said Chastain. “I would say one of the main perks of Instagram is it’s primarily visual. It is easy to get bogged down by all of the text on Twitter.”
