McMinnville Police Department would like to notify motorists of parking restrictions and street closures on Main Street during two Christmas events this coming Saturday, Dec. 1.The police department will be restricting parking from noon to 4:30 p.m. during the McMinnville 2012 Christmas Parade. The parade is set to begin at 2:30 p.m., yet the street will be cleared of parked vehicles beginning at noon. The department does not allow vehicles on the street for the enjoyment of onlookers and the safety of everyone.“We do this for safety purposes,” said Police Capt. Mike Lane. “It also allows people to see the parade as it passes without vehicles obstructing their view.”Before the department started restricting parking, vehicles would line the street on both sides and people would have to get in between the parked vehicles or into the street in order to watch the parade pass.Spectators are encouraged to park behind the Chamber of Commerce, behind Hoover & Son Insurance, beside the Farmers Market, and in the public parking lot on Spring Street.
