Medical advice will be served along with dinner at a special event held at River Park Hospital at 6 p.m. this Monday, Dec. 5.
The featured speaker will be Dr. Andrew Kastello, general surgeon with Cumberland Plateau General Surgery, and breast health will be the topic. Dinner will be provided along with the opportunity to listen to Dr. Kastello’s presentation and ask him questions. There is no cost to attend and both men and women are welcome. Reservations are required and can be obtained by calling 815-7700.
“Breast cancer is a disease we’ve all become aware of because of media attention locally and nationally. But I don’t want the real statistics and information about the cancer to get lost in all the pink noise,” said Kastello. “Women, and men too, need to be aware of the risk factors of breast cancer and what they can do to prevent the disease. They also need to know what to do if they receive a breast cancer diagnosis and what can be done to treat the disease.”
Current statistics show 1-in-8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Though women are at a higher risk, breast cancer does not discriminate and 1-in-100 men will develop breast cancer sometime in their life. By the end of 2011, it is estimated there will be 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women in the U.S., which will result in approximately 39,520 breast cancer deaths. There will be 2,140 new cases of U.S. male breast cancer, resulting in approximately 450 breast cancer deaths.
Information provided by Susan G. Komen for the Cure will also be presented and representatives from the River Park Hospital and WCPI grant program will be on hand to answer questions about this year’s free mammogram grant and breast cancer-related facts and figures for Warren County. All in attendance will receive a goody bag provided by River Park Hospital, WCPI and Susan G. Komen Upper Cumberland.
“Early detection is key in the fight against breast cancer and River Park and Cumberland Plateau General Surgery are able to provide many options for all levels of screening. With this health talk, I hope to be able to dispel some of the myths about breast cancer and to provide a different level of insight about breast cancer than some have heard,” says Kastello.
Dinner with the Doc is a community health talk series held several times during the year at River Park Hospital. Dinner with the Doc events feature local physicians, a free dinner and health information that appeals to a wide range of individuals. Dinner with the Doc is presented by River Park Hospital.
