McMinnville Water and Sewer Department is instituting an automated call system for its delinquent customers beginning next month. The telephone call will alert people prior to their water service being disconnected.
“We are pleased to announce a new, complimentary service,” said Water Department director Anthony Pelham. “Beginning on or before April 2016, the city will initiate an auto call reminder to Water and Sewer Department customers at least one day prior to service cut-offs for nonpayment.”
While the service officially begins next month, the first automated call was made Thursday, March 17, says Pelham, who adds he hopes the calling system helps prevent disconnects by giving customers warning before disconnection.
“I am hopeful this service will help prevent loss of service and act as a reminder of the billing dates to the city’s water customers,” said Pelham.
The city will call only the phone numbers customers have provided.
Customers are encouraged to notify the city Water Department at 473-7542 of any change in customer’s phone number. As this is a free service, the customer shall be responsible to ensure the city has a good or correct phone number for the account.
The city bills on three cycles that have past due dates of the 7th, 14th, and 21st of each month as noted on the customer bill. If the bill remains unpaid for 10 days beyond the “pay gross after” date, service may be cut off without further notice.
