Motorists will have an opportunity to contribute to the preservation of history this Saturday, Oct. 23.

“We are holding our annual roadblock on Saturday,” said Young Men United president Donald Crisp.

“Money raised will go toward our effort in the restoration of Bernard School gymnasium, now called Bernard Community Center, as well as sponsorship of a Jaycee basketball team. Young Men United has sponsored a team for the last three or four years.”

YMU members will be standing roadside at the intersections of Main and Sparta streets, S. Chancery Street and Old Morrison Road (Frank G. Clement Bridge), and the intersection of Northgate Drive in front of Sullivan’s Hometown Pharmacy. Volunteers will be stationed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The group has been working since 2020 to renovate the Bernard School gym and preserve it for future generations.
