Sherry Jacobs serves a slice of chocolate cake to “Slim” Ingalls in celebration of his 72nd birthday during the yearly Friends and Neighbors luncheon Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Central Church of Christ. Central church preacher Ben Bailey led the approximately 100 guests in singing the birthday song to “Slim,” one of the most recognizable citizens of Warren County. Officially, he is  Charles Arsa LaDonn Ingalls.

Bobby Ray Circle Drive

TDOT has approved the small loop drive at Bobby Ray Elementary as part of its renovation. The pull-in area will be placed off Chancery Street and will be used by campus visitors once the addition is complete and the main entrance is relocated there.

Kids of the Community Donation

The Southern Standard presented a cash gift to Kids of the Community of $655, the proceeds earned from the newspaper’s annual fair ticket sales. Each year, the profits are donated to a nonprofit. Old Smithville Road Wreck

Speed is being cited as a possible contributing factor for a motor vehicle wreck on Old Smithville Road at 11 a.m. Monday. According to the report from Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Bradley Taylor left the roadway in the area of Delores Lane and struck a utility pole. The 33-year-old Smithville resident was transported to Saint Thomas River Park Hospital. No citations were given.

Hurricane Florence Relief

Westwood Church of Christ is serving as a drop-off point for Hurricane Florence relief items this week. These supplies will be taken to North Carolina on Oct. 2. If you’d like to help in this effort, donations can be made on Friday, Sept. 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 29 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Westwood Church of Christ.
