A TWRA spokesperson has released additional information involving the death of a kayaker, Terry Scott, on Jan. 1.

According to TWRA spokesperson Mime Barnes, Scott stepped out of his kayak to assist other kayakers over a shoal and he collapsed. One of the kayakers with Scott says the group they were kayaking with helped get him to shore. They quickly began administering CPR and called 911.

EMS arrived on scene and Scott was then transported to Ascension Saint Thomas River Park Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Barnes says the TWRA does not consider this a boating related incident.

Scott's family contacted the Standard wishing to express their gratitude to his friends and everyone who worked to save him.
