A Sunday afternoon crash on Smithville Hwy. sent three people to the hospital with injuries.
Makalie Hobbs, 18, of McMinnville was traveling south, toward downtown McMinnville, in the left inbound lane of Smithville Hwy. near Waffle House at approximately 1:25 p.m. Sunday when she was struck in the front right side of her 2012 Ford Focus, sending it across the northbound lanes of traffic toward the curb near Krystal.
Hobbs’ vehicle was hit by a 2009 Nissan Frontier pickup, driven by John A. Davenport, 73, of McMinnville. Mr. Davenport told McMinnville Police Officer Zach Little he was turning left out of the Waffle House parking lot, reporting a vehicle in the right southbound lane flashed its lights, signaling for him to cross traffic. As he was turning, however, Mr. Davenport collided with the Hobbs vehicle, which was in the other lane traveling southbound.
Mr. Davenport was transported by ambulance to Ascension St. Thomas River Park Hospital with suspected minor injuries, His passengers, Wilma Louise Davenport, 80, and an 11-year-old juvenile, were also transported to River Park, with Mrs. Davenport’s injuries believed to be the most serious. All three occupants of the Frontier were wearing their seatbelts.
Hobbs, who was also wearing her seatbelt, stated the side of her head hurt after the crash, but she declined medical treatment from Warren County EMS, which responded to the scene along with the McMinnville Fire Department.
Mr. Davenport was cited for failure to yield. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and the roadway was cleared by 2 p.m.
