A 16-year-old motorcycle rider was apprehended by police Wednesday afternoon in Westwood after running from the law and crashing his stolen motorcycle.

His name is being withheld by law enforcement due to his juvenile status.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. Wednesday when an officer observed the teen riding on S. Arrowhead Drive without a helmet. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the motorcycle accelerated.

There was no police chase since it’s a residential neighborhood, but officers with McMinnville Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Department maintained a high presence in the area. The teen was spotted minutes later on Ben Lomand Drive and tried to speed away again.

This time he crashed and tried to flee on foot but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

The motorcycle was found to be reported stolen from Rutherford County. It’s described as a large dirt bike that’s street legal.

The teen, who is a local resident, faces charges of evading arrest, driving on a suspended license, and theft.
