Teen claims sex consensual, not rape

Juan Casas Vera is charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual battery.
Pointing to holes in the victim’s version of events, the attorney for a former Warren County High School soccer star charged with rape suggests the sexual relations which led to the charges may have been consensual.“If he got her clothes off, then he didn’t tear them off,” said defense attorney Larry Ross during preliminary hearing for Juan Casas Vera, 18, charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual battery for incidents involving two separate teen girls.Ross was referring to testimony by a sexual assault examiner who said she saw no damage to the clothes worn by the 17-year-old girl at the time of the alleged rape. She also said the girl suffered no apparent injuries.“She told me that she told him no,” the nurse testified during preliminary hearing. “She said he held her down and she hit her head on the headboard.”When pressed, the nurse said she could not say for sure if the incident was consensual or rape but she had no reason to doubt the girl’s story.
