East Tennessee Human Resource Agency is making sure no child goes hungry during the summer.
ETHRA is participating in the Summer Food Service Program providing free meals to kids and teens in low-income areas. Breakfast and lunch are being served at the following schools: West Elementary, Warren County Middle School, Warren County High School, Dibrell Elementary and Morrison Elementary.
Staff members helping serve the meals at West Elementary believe the Summer Food Service Program is a great idea because so many children experience food insecurity during the summer and may not know where they will get their next meal.
“Even in the summer time there are kids out there who are not getting enough to eat,” said West Elementary cafeteria manager Jane Burchfield.
This program is for children under the age of 18 and is being provided on a first-come, first-serve basis at the selected schools at the selected times. The selected times for each location can be found by calling (931) 668-4022 ext. 11803.
Staff members providing these meals are happy to ensure no child goes hungry this summer.
“We love feeding kids and making sure they get enough to eat,” said West Elementary cook Dara Caffey.
This program lasts through July 31.
