Two boaters marooned in the middle of the Barren Fork River were rescued Friday morning by McMinnville firemen. The rescue came after one of the two made a cellphone call to a friend from their small fishing boat, telling them they were trapped on a large limb and couldn’t make it ashore. The two boaters, a man and a woman, found themselves in a precarious situation since it would have been a long swim to reach either bank and they were hopelessly hung on the tree limb. A small trolling motor on the craft was no match for the portion of submerged tree.“They said they had swerved to avoid one limb and got hung on another,” one of the firemen said of his short conversation with the couple. With no other boats in the area in the early morning, McMinnville Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.
