A woman who claimed she was innocent of taking advantage of an elderly woman has entered a guilty plea to charges of stealing from her.The woman, Sherry Dawn Steakley, was ordered by Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to serve 15 days of a three-year sentence for exploitation of an elder adult and theft. She was also ordered to list herself on the new state elder abuse registry which tracks the location of people who commit crimes against the elderly. She was granted a judicial diversion which means she can have her criminal record erased once her probation is over.Prosecutors say Steakley took $7,000 without permission from the woman’s account.
