A week after taking leadership of the Highway Patrol troop in his hometown, Sgt. Jimmy Jones continued his outstanding month with an award for going above and beyond the call of duty.Jones was conferred the Beyond the Traffic Stop Award, sponsored by Bethel University and the Governor’s Highway Safety Office. Jones was told of the honor by Capt. R.C. Christian, who drove to McMinnville after the presentation to personally hand the award to the local lawman.“I had no idea he was going to win the award,” said Christian, noting if he had known, he would have made sure Jones was there to personally accept it. Jones, who replaced Lt. Billy Prater as head of the Warren and Cannon County troop following Prater’s promotion, was born and raised in Warren County.
