Second robbery suspect caught

The second man wanted in connection with a robbery and shooting in the Dibrell area nearly two weeks ago has been apprehended in Cookeville.

Christopher Lavern Ferguson, 34, was arrested by officers in Putnam County and was returned to McMinnville on Thursday for booking at Warren County Jail. He faces charges of attempted homicide and aggravated robbery. His bond is set at $600,000.

Ferguson was reportedly with Dale Lee Deason Jr., 24, when they allegedly robbed a man on Bluff Springs Road and then shot him in the back with a sawed-off shotgun on the morning of Monday, June 6.

Deason is believed to be the one who fired the shot.

The victim’s wallet, cellphone and knife were reportedly found inside a home in Centertown where Deason was staying. He ran into the woods when officers arrived and was apprehended in the woods with the help of a tracking and attack K-9 from Manchester.

“We’re confident we have the right people in custody,” said Sheriff Tommy Myers.

The victim was an acquaintance of the two people who are charged with robbing him. They were reportedly bringing him food when they met up with him on Bluff Springs Road in the Dibrell area.

“They thought he was going to be with a friend who had recently come into a lot of money,” said Sheriff Myers. “His friend wasn’t with him but they still decided to rob him anyway and then they shot him in the back as they were leaving.”

Myers said the victim is recovering.

Ferguson was believed to have fled to Putnam County after the robbery and shooting. Deason was arrested June 8 and faces the same charges as Ferguson. He remains in jail on $600,000 bond.
