Back-to-school time means it’s also time for back-to-school supplies.
If you’re in need of supplies for the upcoming school year, two giveaways are planned for this coming Saturday, Aug. 6. Both start at noon.
The supply giveaways are being held at the Smartt Assembly of God Victory Center at 5542 Manchester Highway, and at the old Morrison School, now an exercise center called The Spot.
At Smartt Assembly of God, backpacks and school supplies will be given away to the first 120 students. Tennessee All-Pro Wrestlers will be on hand to sign autographs. The giveaway starts at noon and will continue while supplies last.
Kelsey Nowlin is spearheading the supply giveaway being held at the old Morrison School. She is billing it as a back-to-school bash on the last weekend of summer vacation.
“Even if you don’t need school supplies, it will be a celebration before the school year starts,” said Nowlin. “We’ll have free hotdogs and chips, and we’ll be playing kickball and basketball. It’s open to all students K-12.”
Nowlin graduated from Martin Methodist College in May and says the school supply giveaway is something she wanted to do to give back to the community.
“I want to leave a positive impact on the kids,” said Nowlin. “I hope to make this an annual event and grow it every year.”
Nowlin will have a barber on hand to give free haircuts to boys. She was unsuccessful in lining up someone to give free haircuts to girls.
The event will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. Supplies will be given away while they last.
