Tonight at 7 p.m. (weather permitting) 368 Warren County High School seniors will walk the stage at Nunley Stadium to receive their diplomas in recognition of their scholarly pursuits.
“Graduation is such an exciting time of year. It’s the culmination of 13 years of hard work. I’m so proud not only of the graduates but also all of the teachers and staff that have helped them along the way. That’s why the commencement exercise is such a celebration,” said Director of Schools Grant Swallows. “We are looking forward to a great night in Nunley Stadium.”
The gates at Nunley Stadium, located on the Warren County Middle School campus, open at 5 p.m. Construction on the building has concluded in time for this year’s graduation and, while there are more parking spaces than last year, Swallows asks that attendees refrain from parking on the school’s new sidewalks and grass on the front portions of the school. To address the great need in parking, overflow parking is being offered at West Elementary School and Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary School with a bus shuttle service to the stadium.
In the event of inclement weather, graduation will be pushed to Saturday, May 18, at 6 p.m. with senior line-up at 5 p.m. Should poor weather persist, it will be moved to Monday, May 20 at 6 p.m.
Customarily, graduation took place later in the month, but according to Swallows, the flexibility to account for bad weather has led to the event taking place a week sooner both last year and this year. “Previously, if the ceremony had to be rescheduled, it interfered with Memorial Day Weekend,” explained Swallows of the shift in date. “We are looking forward to a wonderful night for our seniors.”
Project Graduation, regardless of weather, will take place tonight. It will follow 30 minutes after the graduation ceremony otherwise.
The Southern Standard’s special graduation section featuring graduating seniors from WCHS, Boyd Christian Academy, Van Buren High School and Webb School will be coming in a future edition both in print and online.
