Milner Recreation Center is officially open for business, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with its grand opening extravaganza this Sunday, July 18, from 2 to 6 p.m.

McMinnville Parks and Recreation officials will be on hand to highlight the renovated facilities, and there will be activities, giveaways, live music and more.

Admission is free. It also marks the first official Sunday the rec center is open.

The famed Silver and Gold Band will kick off the event at 2 p.m., followed by dedications to some of the people behind the renovation and garden dedications by Ben Lomand Garden Club.

Different city departments will also be present with activities and refreshments for those who visit. Recreation program coordinator Michael Benusches said, “Each department will have two representatives present to build relationships between the city and the citizens.”

Along with the activities are giveaways, including 500 reusable water bottles to raise awareness for the facility’s new refilling stations, a six-month membership, and a one-year membership. The event is not only to celebrate the opening of the new facility but also to emphasize the new hours. Monday through Friday, the rec center will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

“We are really excited to offer all the activities at Milner Recreation Center for free this Sunday,” added Benusches. “We hope everyone comes out to celebrate and see all that the Milner family has done behind the scenes.”

Milner Recreation Center is located at 500 Garfield Street. For more information, call 473-1212.
