Renovation work at McMinnville Civic Center is now estimated in the $6.1 million range.
McMinnville Civic Center’s proposed $5 million renovation is now $6.1 million after cost-saving measures appear to have gone awry.“It was $5 million and it’s only $6 million now,” said Alderman Everett Brock. The statement was followed by laughter and came after a 40-minute slide show presentation by Hart, Freeland and Roberts Design senior vice president Steve Griffin. The presentation showed the projected renovation, but failed to provide a reduction in cost.Since August 2016, a committee consisting of city administrator Bill Brock, Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord, Water Department director Anthony Pelham, and Planning and Zoning director Nolan Ming has been reviewing preliminary Civic Center plans looking for ways to cut costs.Brock asked Griffin, “How confident are you with these numbers?”“Very confident,” said Griffin. The $6.1 million estimate included $3.5 million to renovate the existing Civic Center.
