WCMS maintenance man Greg Pope has been named Warren County School’s Classified Employee of the Month, while Jimmy Haley has been named Certified Employee of the Month.

Pope was nominated by WCMS principal Gerald Tidwell.

“Greg has been our maintenance man at WCMS since I began as principal here eight years ago,” said Tidwell. “From the very beginning of our working relationship, I have found Greg to be a very hard working employee and committed to doing the best job he could for our school and staff. No matter how many times Greg is called upon for his services, he is always more than willing to assist anyone in need and does so in a very polite and respectful manner.”

Tidwell says Pope stays busy outside his school system job, maintaining a farm and staying involved in his daughter’s school and 4-H activities.

“Even so, he finds time on weekends and evenings to make extra trips to WCMS just to check on the school or to make sure the temperature remains comfortable for students and staff,” said Tidwell. “Greg also does an excellent job monitoring our campus, which helps tremendously with maintaining a safe school campus. He goes above and beyond expectations to serve WCMS.”
After receiving the award, Pope addressed the School Board and sincerely thanked members for the opportunity to work in the school system.

“I’ve worked for the school system for about 12 years now and I appreciate the opportunity to be employed and I will continue to strive to do a good job,” said Pope.

Haley was presented with the Certified Employee of the Month award by Director of Schools Bobby Cox.

“Mr. Haley is a true advocate for education and children in our community,” said Cox. “He has dedicated 41 years of his life to the Warren County School System, touching countless lives and endeavoring to make a difference in the lives of others through education. Mr. Haley has a heart for children of all ages and will always be remembered for Freezer Pop Fridays.”

Haley is retiring in order to take his newly elected position as Warren County Executive.

The awards were given for August.
