Police have cracked an auto theft ring, arresting three men for stealing the vehicles and a woman for trying to cover for them while they fled from officers. The suspected auto thieves, Austin Smith, 21 and Dalton Porter, 18, both of Woodbury, and Tyler Gage Finley, 21, of Crossville, have been charged with grand theft, evading arrest and failure to stop. They also face similar charges in Rutherford, Coffee and Cannon counties.According to McMinnville police detective Todd Rowland, the vehicle thefts happened in the Civic Center and Northside areas of the city and were made possible because the owners did not take simple precautions.“The vehicles were stolen because they were easy targets,” Rowland revealed. “They were left unlocked and the keys were inside.”There was also a theft of a Nissan truck from Coffee County in which the trio was involved.
