The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed one person has died in a two-car collision Wednesday around 11:30 a.m. in Rock Island.

The accident took place on Sparta Highway in front of the Dollar General, a spot where two people died earlier this year when their vehicle pulled into the path of a tractor trailer.

The Highway Patrol has yet to release the name of the victim. Another person involved in the crash was airlifted. More details will follow as they become available.

That intersection has been the spot for several bad wrecks over the years. The problem is the speed limit is 65 mph on Sparta Highway and Rock Island Road is heavily traveled. A flashing caution light has been mentioned for that intersection, but no action has been taken.

This marks the eighth traffic fatality in Warren County this year, a number law enforcement officials say is extremely high.
